Advantage For Dogs And Cats Review

General Product Information

Advantage is a flea prevention medication that is intended for monthly administration for dogs as well as cats. It is important to note that Advantage is not intended as a treatment medication for tick infestation. In order to treat cases of tick infestation, the manufacturer of Advantage recommends the simultaneous use of a tick collar. Advantage is intended for dogs 7 weeks or older, and cats 8 weeks or older.

Among the benefits of using Advantage as claimed by the manufacturer are quick relief from flea attacks in as little as five minutes, total elimination of all adult fleas in as little as 12 hours, elimination of flea larvae in less than 20 minutes, and safe and easy application. Advantage is also considerably gentler than other types of flea prevention medication, and it works even after bathing your pet.

Advantage

Imidacloprid is the primary ingredient in Advantage, and it has a direct effect on the fleas’ nervous system, first resulting in paralysis and then death. In addition, Advantage will also effectively kill the fleas before they can lay their eggs, which makes it an effective flea prevention medication in multiple stages.

Advantage is manufactured by Bayer, and is available in packages of 4, 6, and 12 doses.

Possible Side Effects As Acknowledged By The Manufacturer

There are relatively few possible side effects associated with the use of Advantage, with the primary one being sensitivity to the product. The manufacturer claims however that such incidents are quite rare, although any signs of adverse reactions in your pet should be brought to the attention of a qualified veterinarian immediately.

As with all medications, you should only give Advantage to your pet after consultation with your veterinarian. This is particularly important in animals that are currently undergoing treatment with any other type of medication, as well as older pets, or those that are pregnant and/or nursing.

Customer Reviews And Ratings

Customer reviews of Advantage seem to be split down the middle, with some users reporting favorable results, while some being disappointed in the product. One customer reports favorable results with Advantage for several months, only to later notice a severe flea infestation in her pet. This customer subsequently switched to another flea prevention medication.

One other customer on the other hand has nothing but good things to say about Advantage, citing its effectiveness in her pet in spite of constant exposure to fleas. The customer in question works in an animal shelter, and was constantly bringing home fleas and flea eggs on her clothes. In spite of this risk factor however, all four of her dogs have managed to remain free from flea infestation for several months. In addition, this customer has noted no adverse side effects in any of her pets.

One customer again reports disappointment in Advantage after initially using the product successfully for a number of months. This customer in fact expressed doubts about the effectiveness of the current Advantage formula as compared to previous batches. This customer not only reports that Advantage seemed to have lost its initial effectiveness, but also resulted in hair fall in several areas of her dog’s body. This customer again subsequently opted to shift to another anti-flea medication.

Still another customer reported mostly satisfactory results from using Advantage on a dog that was suffering from a major flea infestation. The dog in question was previously treated with another brand of medication for a few weeks without any noticeable improvement. Upon being given Advantage however, the dog was virtually free of fleas in as little as 24 hours.
