General Product Information
Comfortis is a flea treatment and prevention medication that comes in chewable tablets. It is the first medication of its kind that has been approved by the FDA, and a single tablet is enough to provide continuous protection from flea infestation for as long as one month. Comfortis is available only upon prescription from a qualified veterinarian, and is intended for dogs that are 14 weeks or older.
Among the benefits that you could get from using Comfortis on your dog is quick flea elimination in as little as 30 minutes. This effect will last for three to four weeks in fact, and Comfortis can even begin killing fleas before they can lay their eggs. Comfortis comes in beef flavored tablets that most dogs find palatable, and its main active ingredient–Spinosad–also offers the benefit of being environmentally friendly. This ingredient works by stimulating the nervous system of fleas, causing paralysis and almost immediate death.

Comfortis for dogs
Before giving Comfortis to your pet, you should first discuss your dog’s history of health issues, particularly those that have to do with seizures. In addition, you should also inform your veterinarian if your dog is currently undergoing treatment with any other type of medication.
Overdosing on Comfortis is a fairly rare occurrence, although if it does happen, the effects tend to be quite mild, with the most common effect being vomiting. If this happens however, or if you notice any other adverse effects in your pet, it would be best to take the necessary precautions and bring your dog to your veterinarian.
Possible Side Effects As Acknowledged By The Manufacturer
Some dogs with a predisposition to allergies and certain other types of health conditions may experience side effects when given Comfortis. As with an overdose, the most common side effect from using Comfortis is vomiting. If your dog vomits within one hour after administering Comfortis, it is recommended that a second dose be given. There are other side effects that you may also notice, and these include everything from decreased appetite to lethargy, tossing, excessive thirst, increased activity and possibly even hyperactivity, and increased saliva. If you notice these or any other unusual effects in your dog, consult with your veterinarian immediately.
Customer Reviews
Many dog owners who use Comfortis on their pets report generally report satisfactory results. A large number of positive customer reviews of the product come from dog owners who live out in the country where fleas and ticks are a constant problem. One such owner reports having experienced recurring flea infestation in spite of her best effort to spray virtually her entire property with anti-flea products. After beginning Comfortis treatment however, this dog owner reports greatly reduced incidences of flea infestation. She still continues to spray her property with anti-flea pesticides, although the use of Comfortis clearly helped reduce the number of fleas that her dogs regularly brought in from outside the house.
One use are also reports favorable results with Comfortis in spite of the fact that three of her four dogs have allergies to certain types of medications. All dogs are currently undergoing treatment with Comfortis, and the owner has yet to see a single flea in the few weeks of treatment.
Finally, one customer reports having used another product for a number of years, until recently realizing that it was no longer having the effect that it used to. This customer subsequently shifted to Comfortis for his Jack Russell terrier, and his problems with flea infestation are now history.
I gave Comfortis to my 55 pound pit bull. About 4 hours later she became very nervous and experienced extreme salivation. The next day she was very lethargic and had a decrease in her appetite. My dog is prone to some allergies. I am taking her to the vet in the morning because she is still very lethargic with a decreased appitite.
