Interceptor is a heartworm prevention medication that comes in tablet form. It is intended for once a month treatment, and it can also effectively control adult hookworm, roundworm, and even whipworm. The variety of Interceptor intended for cats is the only medication of its kind that prevents heartworm, roundworm, and hookworm infestation in felines. This product is available only by prescription from a qualified veterinarian.
Interceptor is intended only for cats six weeks or older and dogs that are four weeks or older, and offers the benefits of only once a month administration, in an easy to use tablet form. In addition, Interceptor is a broad-spectrum treatment that can treat a wide variety of worm infestation cases in your pets.

The main active ingredient in Interceptor is milbemycin oxime, and it has the effect of effectively destroying heartworm, roundworm, and whipworm larvae at all stages of their growth. This ingredient works by interfering with the neurotransmitter functions of parasitic worms.
Interceptor is manufactured by Novartis, and it is also sold in generic form as Milbemycin Oxime.
Possible Side Effects As Acknowledged By The Manufacturer
Although cases of side effects associated with the use of Interceptor can be quite rare, they may occur in animals that have a previous history of adverse reaction to other types of similar medication. Among the effects that you may notice in your pets are depression and a general appearance of lethargy, and some animals may even have greatly reduced appetite. You may also notice symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, excessive salivation, and generally weakness. In more extreme cases, animals may even experience seizures.

There are a few customers that have reported slight adverse effects in their animals, but most of these cases cleared up in a short time.
One customer reports giving Interceptor for four months according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and the dog has consistently tested negative for heartworm as well as other types of parasitic worms during that entire period. The dog remains in perfect health to this date, and the pet owner was sufficiently impressed to continue using Interceptor as an effective heartworm medication.
Another owner reports using Interceptor on two dogs, both of which were previously taking another brand of heartworm medication. After the previous medication failed to provide the results that the owner expected, he since switched over to Interceptor upon the advice of a veterinarian.
This customer has nothing but good things to say about making the switch, and both of his dogs have tested negative for heartworm and roundworm infestation ever since. This pet owner was also pleased with how well most of his dogs took to the medication, and reports having no trouble at all getting them to take it on schedule.
A more interesting review comes from an assistant at a veterinarian’s clinic, who was constantly in contact with pet owners who used different medications. She noted that most of the pet owners who used Interceptor generally had far less trouble with heartworm and roundworm infestation than customers who used other products.
