Ivomec is a parasiticide medication for dogs that can be used to treat and control a wide variety of internal and external pests such as roundworms, lungworms, grubs, lice, and even mange. Ivomec is also an effective treatment for virtually all of the same pests in pigs and cows. Ivomec offers the advantage of being strong enough to require only a single dose, which is typically enough to eliminate various types of parasites as well as liver flukes.

The primary ingredient in Ivomec is Ivermectin, which effectively disrupts the nerve functions of susceptible parasites. It does this by binding itself to certain chloride ion channels in these pests, causing paralysis and eventual death.
It is important to make sure that you do not use Ivomec on cattle that is intended for slaughter within 35 days. For treatment of swine, you should make sure not to give Ivomec within 18 days of being slaughtered. For dogs that are currently undergoing treatment with spinosad, it would be best to consult with a veterinarian prior to administering Ivomec.
Ivomec is manufactured by Merial, and is also available as a generic sterile solution of 1% active ingredient for every 10 mg.
Possible Side Effects As Acknowledged By The Manufacturer
Most of the side effects associated with the use of Ivomec have to do with irritation at the area of subcutaneous administration. This is most often observable in cows, although it may occur in dogs as well. The most common sign of irritation is a slight swelling in the tissue where the medication was injected. It is important to monitor this swelling constantly in order to make sure that it does not develop into an infection.
