ProMeris For Dogs Review

General Product Information

ProMeris is a topical medication intended for use in canines, as a means to get rid of fleas and ticks. In addition, ProMeris can also be used to prevent further infestation in dogs that are already tick free. The manufacturer also recommends using ProMeris to rid your pet of chewing lice and mange.

ProMeris is intended for dogs that are eight weeks old and above, and it offers the benefit of only once a month treatment that is quite easy to apply. The product is also waterproof, which means that it will continue to work even as your dog goes about his or her normal activities.

Promeris For Dogs

Promeris For Dogs

The primary active ingredient in ProMeris is metaflumizone, which is a compound that works by attacking the nervous system of pests. It does this by blocking certain channels in these pests’ nervous systems, causing paralysis and eventual death. ProMeris also contains amitraz, which in itself is an effective deterrent against a wide variety of different tick species. Among the different pests that ProMeris can eliminate are those that cause Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever, as well as chewing lice and Demodectic mites.

ProMeris is available in three and six dose packages, for dogs ranging from 11 pounds all the way up to 110 pounds. ProMeris is intended for once a month application only.

It is important to make sure that your dog does not lick the area wherein the medication was applied, particularly before it has dried. You should also instruct your children not to kiss or otherwise hug the dog immediately after ProMeris treatment.

Possible Side Effects As Acknowledged By The Manufacturer

Cases of side effects associated with the use of ProMeris are quite rare, although they do occur from time to time. Most of the side effects seem to be related to instances where in the dog licked the medication from his or her skin shortly after application. The good news is that most of these effects are generally pretty mild, and they should clear up in as little as 48 hours or less, even without having to take your dog to a veterinarian. Of course if side effects do continue to persist, then you should take your dog in for diagnosis and treatment immediately.

Among the most common side effects associated with ProMeris use are excessive salivation, shaking or tremors (particularly of the head), and unusual licking of the lips. As mentioned earlier, these effects are generally temporary although if they persist, or additional symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, or behavioral changes occur, you should consult a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Customer Reviews

Most of the reviews of ProMeris are fairly positive, with the most attractive feature for most customers being the relative lack of smell of the product. This is in comparison to other types of medications that have quite a strong odor. In addition, many customers reported on the quick effectiveness of ProMeris, with a large number reporting satisfactory results in as little as a few days.

More encouraging was the report of one customer, who had previously been using another type of anti-flea medication on her four dogs. Given the fact that this medication was quite expensive, this customer was understandably eager to shift over to the cheaper ProMeris. Aside from being pleased with the price, this customer was also generally satisfied with the results, and all four of her dogs have been pest free ever since. This customer also reports being pleased with the relative lack of odor of ProMeris, especially compared to her previous brand.

I was shocked to find a positive review…. I was looking for a review that was positive because I’ve seen all the bad reviews of Promeris. Most of the reviewers on the internet say that their dogs got sick. However, I’ve been using this for three months and none of the reviews are accurate to what my experience was. My puppy was fine she was perfectly okay. I put it on left her alone for an hour to let the medicine dry. She suffer no tremor no shaking no vomiting not pain no problems. She does seem a little sleepier but she is a pup. Btw… the reason the doctor prescribed promeris is because she had scabies not the human type… and it cleared them up in two months… her hair has grown back and she no longer is losing hair. This product for me was great for $44 bucks I killed fleas ticks and scabies which…. the scabies would have costed way more for dips and other things. All I know is she got better and maybe it was the comined effort of eating, multi-vitamins and promeris but I swear by promeris! Our pup had almost all her hair gone and dry flakes… she was bad off. But Promeris helped!! I wonder if the negative reviews are by other flea tick medication because promeris works…. in all areas… I have not seen a flea or tick on this dog since putting this medication on and we go to the park and hiking etc.

My daughter bought a four mo. old puppy, who came down with a terrible case of mange. For over a year, and well over $1,000 in vet bills and meds, and untold hours of bathing, dipping, and medicating the dog, I went out of town and forgot her meds. So I went to a local vet to buy some more and they tolde to try Promeris. The poor dog had no hair pn her back or tail and itches all the time. When I tried the ProMeris, the itching stopped and her hair grew started growing back within three days. She has been fine ever since. ProMeris ended a nightmare for me and the dog. She is also flea free.
